THE TEAM

Each member of Colony Films has had their own unique and diverse experience in film production. We've come together to pool our resources and skills to create moving and compelling stories that capture the essence of both South Africa and China.

Darrell Roodt (director/producer/screenwriter). Darrell is regarded as South Africa's most prolific film director with 47 credits to date. He is probably most well known for his 1992 film, Sarafina, which starred actress Whoopi Goldberg. His film Yesterday (2004) was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film as well as the Independent Spirit Awards for Best Foreign Film (2005). His film Little One (2012) was selected as the South African entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards. Finally, he has won an EIUC Award at the Venice Film Festival (2004). His most recent international feature is a big budget biopic of Winnie Mandela starring the Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson and the Oscar nominated Terrence Howard as Winnie and Nelson Mandela.

Murray Clive Walker (producer/actor): In 2007, Murray moved to Beijing where he became fluent in Mandarin and then started working as a writer, producer and actor. He has participated in over 40 Chinese movies and TV shows. He also worked as a travel host at CCTV's Rediscovering China covering the Sichuan earthquake. In 2013 he partnered with Victor Muh to produce China's first bilingual sitcom, a project which has been expanded into a movie. He moved back to Johannesburg in 2017 in order to explore the local industry and ultimately bridge the cultural gap between China and South Africa.

Jane Zheng (producer): Jane got her MA in TV

journalism at Goldsmiths College, University of London. During her studies she worked for BBC and produced and directed her own documentary about Lesbianism in China. After graduating, Jane started producing films in China. She worked as associate producer for the 2009 feature film ‘GASP’ which starred Ge you, Liu Hua, Lin Xilei and Zhang Bolin. She also worked as executive producer for “Red Light Revolution”, an indie film which was selected and screened by various international film festivals. Recently, Jane finished producing ‘King of Peking’, an independent film that has officially selected by 2017 Tribeca Film Festival.

Victor Muh (director/producer): Victor is a

multi-lingual, multi-cultural, award-winning director who has created content for Saab, Salomon, Quiksilver, the Austrian Government, Audi China, Peugeot China, Citroën China, Yahoo! Sports, Split Works and Swire Properties. His work has been seen on movie screens around the world as well as on Fox Sports, Fox Sports Asia, Star Sports, MCM International & MCM France, CNBC, Eurosport, Current TV, Surf Channel, and M6 France.
